Salary packaging
A great benefit of working for DHSV is the ability to salary package and increase your take home pay.
Salary packaging is available to all full-time and part-time employees and allows you to nominate certain personal costs such as mortgage payments, rent, personal loans or credit card payments to be paid by your employer from your pre-tax gross salary.
Find out more by visiting our Salary packaging section.
Meal and entertainment allowance
In addition to the above salary packaging benefits, you can also incorporate the Meals and Entertainment category, where restaurant meals can be packaged from your gross salary.
All enquiries about salary packaging should be directed to Remunerator, our external salary packaging manager.

Paid Parental Leave Scheme
On 1 January 2011, the Australian Government introduced a Paid Parental Leave Scheme for eligible employees.
Am I eligible?
The scheme applies to births or adoptions on or after 1 January 2011. You are eligible for the scheme provided:
- You are the primary care giver to a new born child or adopted child under 16 years of age.
- You satisfy the work and income test:
- work test: you must have worked continuously for at least 10 of the previous 13 months and for at least 330 hours (approximately 1 day/week) during that period.
- income test: your income must be less than $150,000 per annum.
How do I apply?
- Applications must be made directly to the Family Assistance Office (FAO) at Centrelink.
- The FAO will determine your eligibility.
- If you are eligible for paid parental leave, the FAO will contact DHSV to confirm your employment details.
- The application can be made 3 months prior to the date of birth and up to 12 months after the date of birth.
How much will I get?
- The Government entitlement is $570 gross per week for a maximum of 18 weeks.
- This benefit is in addition to the existing paid maternity leave award entitlement provided by DHSV.
- The Government pays either the 18 weeks parental leave or the baby bonus – not both.
- Employees may choose to have the Government’s parental leave payment paid at the same time as the DHSV paid parental leave or later.

Recognition of Service Awards
Employees are recognised with a gift for their years of service to DHSV at employment milestones commencing at five years of service.
Weight Watchers @ Work
As part of our Employee Benefits and Wellbeing program, DHSV recently partnered with Weight Watchers to run 13 week Weight Watchers @ Work programs.
The Weight Watchers @ Work initiative acknowledges that while access to support and guidance is crucial to successful weight loss, it can be difficult in a busy working person’s life.
The program also caters for celiacs (gluten free) and vegetarians.
The 13 week program costs $9 per week for each participating employee, (this is a cost subsidised by DHSV). Payment for the program is managed through payroll, who deduction $18 per fortnight from your salary.
