Patients and visitors to RDHM require clear and specific instructions during an emergency. In the event of an emergency, do not panic. Remain calm and follow instructions.

What you should know
If you experience an emergency situation, follow the instructions beneath the relevant time slot:
6.30 am - 8.00 am
Contact security by:
- pressing a duress button (if located in your area)
- ringing the ground floor meet and greet desk on x1002 (if guard at desk)
- paging (phone 1300 / pager code ‘107’ / your contact number)
8.00 am - 4.30 pm
Dial x1222 and state:
- the type of emergency
- the location of the emergency
4.30 pm - 11.00 pm
Contact security by:
- pressing a duress button (if located in your area)

- paging (phone 1300 / pager code ‘107’ / your contact number)
11.00 pm - 6.30 am
Contact the relevant emergency service for assistance by dialing 0 000.
Note: An automated (EWIS) announcement is implemented throughout the building if a Fire Alarm is activated after hours.
Stay calm and aware. Await further instructions.
If you are given a code orange to evacuate, immediately proceed to the nearest exit point in your area and evacuate to the designated external (or internal if instructed) assembly area.

| Blue | Medical emergency | Call x1222 (0 000 for after hours ambulance), remain calm and assist until emergency help arrives. Note: A Medical Response Team is available on site 8.30am to 5.00pm. |
| Grey | Unarmed threat (Aggressive behaviour) | Call x1222, press the duress button or page (for security assistance). Remain calm until assistance arrives. Call 0 000 if the need is urgent. |
| Black | Armed threat (Life threatening behaviour) | Call x1222, press the duress button or page (for security assistance). Remain calm until assistance arrives. Call 0 000 for police assistance anytime that the need arises. |
| Purple | Bomb threat | If you receive a threatening phone call, remain calm, record the details, DO NOT hang up the phone, call x1222 and press the duress button (for security assistance). During ECO hours, the Emergency Coordinator will generally take control of the situation. Please refrain from announcing “bomb” or “Code Purple”. This will be managed after close analysis of the situation by ECO. Follow emergency procedures and instructions, and evacuate immediately if required. |
| Yellow | Internal emergency (Chemical spill, gas leak, structural issue, building services) | Call x1222 and press the duress button (for security assistance). During ECO hours, Emergency Coordinator will generally take control of situation. This will be managed after close analysis of the situation by ECO. Follow building emergency procedures and instructions, evacuating immediately if required. |
| Brown | External emergency (Terrorism, natural disaster ) | Instructions will be issued to follow. If required, call x1222 immediately or dial 0 000 (for Fire & Rescue). Follow emergency procedures and instructions, evacuating immediately if required. |
| Orange | Evacuation (Immediate action, evacuate your area, evacuate building) | If a code orange is announced, immediately proceed to the nearest exit point in your area and evacuate to the designated external (or internal if instructed) assembly area. Do not use lifts. |
